Surrey confirm Kohli deal as India's captain gets licence to warm up for England

[ad_1] Surrey have confirmed the signing of India's captain Virat Kohli for the month of June so ending months of anticipation that he would use the county circuit to warm up for the Test series against England. Kohli will become the fourth Test-eligible Indian player in county cricket this year with fellow batsman Cheteshwar Pujara currently at Yorkshire and seamers Ishant Sharma and Varun Aaron representing Division Two clubs Sussex and Leicestershire respectively. Although there have been a few voices decrying the fact that Surrey have given Kohli useful acclimatisation ahead of India's Test series in the country this summer, the vast majority of followers of England's professional circuit will welcome the additional publicity and status it is bound to bring. Kohli will be available for all Surrey cricket throughout the month, beginning with Royal London Cup 50-over matches against Middlesex - an opening match at Lord's for India's captain - and Glamorgan and thr...

Aashish Kapoor to head India's junior selection committee

[ad_1] Aashish Kapoor , the former India offspinner, has replaced Venkatesh Prasad as the chairman of India's junior selection committee. Kapoor joins Gyanendra Pandey and Rakesh Parekh in the committee. Prasad quit the role in March and joined Kings XI Punjab for the ongoing IPL season. During his tenure, India reached the Under-19 World Cup final twice, and won the title earlier this year. Keeping both positions would have left Prasad on the wrong side of the conflict of interest rules as advocated by the Lodha panel. Kapoor played four Tests and 17 ODIs for India between 1994 and 2000. He was part of the World Cup squad in 1996 and the XI for the semi-final against Sri Lanka. Kapoor had a successful domestic career, taking 398 wickets in 128 first-class matches in addition to scoring 3449 runs. [ad_2] Source link

Bisht, Gayakwad back in India's T20 squad for Asia Cup

[ad_1] Left-arm spinners Ekta Bisht and Rajeshwari Gayakwad are back in India's T20 squad for the Women's Asia Cup. Seam-bowling allrounder Rumeli Dhar and left-arm spinner Radha Yadav have missed out on selection for the tournament, which will be held in Malaysia from June 1 to 11. Injury had ruled both Bisht and Gayakwad out of India's last T20 assignment, the home tri-series in March that also featured Australia and England. Gayakwad was part of the initial squad as a replacement for Bisht, who had injured her left index finger during the ODI series against Australia, only to herself suffer a split webbing in her right hand during a fielding session. Radha replaced Gayakwad and played two games in the tri-series, taking three wickets. Both Bisht and Gayakwad came back for the three-match ODI series against England in early April. Dhar was part of the T20 tri-series squad, and played just the one game, before being left out of the squad for the ODIs against England. S...
